LOUISVILLE, KY -- Blackburn College Softball scored first and held a lead until the final inning but were unable to hold on as they fell to top-seeded Greenville College in Thursday's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals.
The Beavers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when junior Kenadee Frey doubled to left field and scored senior Kailynn Kruep. The Panthers tied it in the bottom of the second before Blackburn answered with two runs in the fourth.
Freshman Addison Ruyle started things off with a single and got to second on a sacrifice bunt from freshman Kharma Giles. Freshman Kendal Maddox followed with a double to score Ruyle. After a sacrifice bunt from senior Brianna Melchor moved Maddox to third, senior Sierra Hiser singled down the right field line which scored Maddox and moved BC ahead 3-1.
Unfortunately, Greenville responded with 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to capture the 11-3 victory.
In the game, Maddox led the team as she finished with three hits, including two doubles.
Blackburn will return to action Friday and will take on Spalding University in another SLIAC Tournament semifinal matchup.
