Softball Splits Doubleheader at Lyon
BATESVILLE, AR -- The Blackburn College softball team travelled to Lyon College Saturday for a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader and split the games, winning the first game 6-3 but dropped the second game 2-1.

BATESVILLE, AR -- The Blackburn College softball team travelled to Lyon College Saturday for a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader and split the games, winning the first game 6-3 but dropped the second game 2-1.
The Beavers saw three with three hits to lead the way, seniors Caroline Gibson and Zoe Mitchell, and junior Kenadee Frey. Frey added two runs, a double, a home run and two runs batted in. Gibson tallied two doubles with Mitchell posting an rbi.
Freshman Addison Ruyle notched a team-best three rbi's.
Senior Shelby Koenig threw four strikeouts in four innings.
Blackburn scored the day's first run in the second inning when sophomore Mailee Schoen singled to left field to score freshman Elexus Frey. The team then added three more runs in the third inning behind Ruyle's three-run home run for her second homerthis season, making the score 4-0.
In the fourth inning, K. Frey hit her fourth home run this season which also scored senior Kailynn Kruep and made the score 6-0. Lyon responded with two runs in their fourth and another in their fifth, but Blackburn stopped the Scots offense for the 6-3 victory.
The second game saw Lyon take a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning. Kruep followed with a double to open the BC sixth inning and scored off a Mitchell single but the run would not be enough as the Beavers fell 2-1.
Blackburn returns to action Wednesday with a doubleheader at SLIAC rival Greenville College.
