CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College Softball hosted Webster University in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader Thursday but were unable to capture victory as they fell 4-2 in both games.
The Beavers featured five players with two hits on the day. Freshmen Kendal Maddox and Addison Ruyle both had a double during the games with Ruyle also scoring a run.
Webster started the first game with three runs in the first inning and added a fourth run in the bottom of the second. Blackburn answered in the third. Ruyle started the inning with a double and advanced to third off a ball hit by freshman Elexus Frey that resulted in a Gorlok error. Frey stole second before freshman Alexis Weber hit a sacrifice fly to score Ruyle. Senior Kailynn Kruep followed with a single to score Frey. Unfortunately, Blackburn was unable to add another run and fell 4-2.
In the nightcap, Webster once again took a 4-0 lead early before the Beavers responded. Senior Sierra Hiser walked and Kruep was hit by a pitch before junior Kenadee Frey advanced the runners to second and third. Ruyle followed which caused a Webster error and scored Hiser. The fourth inning saw freshman Kharma Giles double which Maddox followed with another double to score Giles. Blackburn was not able to add another run and again dropped the game 4-2.
