CARLINVILLE, IL -- The Blackburn College Volleyball team hosted NAIA foe St. Mary of the Woods College Tuesday night but were unable to defeat the Pomeroys.
The Beavers were led by sophomore Rean Ward with six kills. Seniors Ella Person and Zoe Mitchell added five kills each. Junior Kenadee Frey posted four kills and led the team with 12 assists. She also posted a team-high 12 digs.
Blackburn held a 17-15 lead in the first set, but the guest came out of a time out with eight straight points before winning the opener 25-20. The second set demonstrated why SMWC is now 29-2 on the season. BC was close to capturing the set with a 24-22 lead, but the Pomeroys rallied for four straight points and won the set 26-24. In the third set, SMWC pulled ahead early and maintained the lead for a 25-19 win.
The Beavers return to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday when they head to Greenville College to take on the Panthers and Lyon College. The team is currently tied for third place in the conference with four matches to play.
