CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College Volleyball hosted their first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tri-match of the season as they hosted Greenville College and Webster University. The Beavers defeated Webster 3-2 for the second time this season after falling to Greenville in the opener.
BC featured a balanced offensive attack with four players achieving double-figure kills, led by sophomore Rean Ward's 18. Senior Ella Person had 15 with freshman Rylea Black chipping in with 12. Senior Zoe Mitchell added 10.
Junior Kenadee Frey posted 54 assists and tied freshman Elexus Frey for the team's lead with four aces.
E. Frey paced the team's defense with 31 digs while K. Frey had 25. Ward and senior Peyton Moeglin finished with 16 each. Freshman Marissa Perez tallied 15.
At the net, Mitchell finished with a total of six blocks. Black had three, including two solo blocks.
In the match against the Gorloks, the teams traded the first two sets with a 25-22 score. Blackburn captured the third set 25-10 but Webster answered with a 25-16 set win to force a fifth set. In the deciding set, the teams fought to a 5-5 tie before the Beavers rallied for five straight points to make it 10-5. The guests managed to narrow it to a four point margin twice, but Blackburn held on to win 15-11 to take the set and the match.
Against the Panthers, BC fell 25-21, 25-14 and 25-13.
Blackburn improves to 4-4 in SLIAC play and returns to action Friday with a home match against Spalding University, who they defeated 3-2 at Spalding recently.
