Volleyball Falls at CUC Tri
RIVER FOREST, IL -- Blackburn College Volleyball took on Concordia University Chicago and Fontbonne University but were unable to to capture victory as they fell 3-0 in both matches.

RIVER FOREST, IL -- Blackburn College Volleyball took on Concordia University Chicago and Fontbonne University Saturday at the CUC Tri-match but were unable to to capture victory as they fell 3-0 in both matches.
Senior Cara Pence led the Beavers offense with 14 kills and three aces through the two matches while Payton Moeglin added 12 kills. Sophomore Kenadee Frey finished with 17 assists with senior Abygail Sobczak posting 11 assists and freshman Naomi Lansaw chipping in with nine.
Defensively, sophomore Bailey Bennett paced the team's defense with 22 digs on the day. Frey tallied 17 with Pence recording 13.
The day started with a match against CUC with the hosts taking the first two sets 25-17 and 25-16. Blackburn was able to jump ahead 13-7 in the third set but the Cougars rallied to take an eventual 16-15 lead. The two teams would trade scores until it was a 24-24 tie but CUC was able to score two times to win the set 26-24 and win the match 3-0.
Against Fontbonne, the teams were tied at 19-19 in the first set but the Griffins managed to close out the set on a 6-1 run to win it 25-20. Fontbonne then went on to win the next two sets 25-13 and 25-12.
Blackburn returns to action Tuesday and will return to the Chicago area to take on Dominican University.
