Koskey & Leemon Run Strong at Greenville Select
Despite only having four athletes compete, the Blackburn women’s team finished fourth among six SLIAC teams competing at the Greenville University Select Meet on Saturday, April 15. Junior Emily Eitzenhefer competed in four events on the day, including the high jump, long jump, triple jump, and running the fastest leg on the 4 x 400-meter relay team. Senior Molly Koskey and sophomore Olivia Leemon ran very strong 1500-meter races, turning in the tenth and eleven best times in the conference this season. Koskey ran a 5:59.57 in her first-ever attempt at the race, while Leemon demolished her previous PR by seventeen seconds, finishing in 6:07.84. To conclude the day, Eitzenhefer, Koskey, and Leemon were joined by freshman Sarah Olson in the 4 x 400-meter relay.
Coach Al Sturgeon said, “I was very pleased with our women’s team’s performance on Saturday. Molly is new to track and has amazing potential: to break six-minutes in her first attempt at the 1500 is simply outstanding. And I was pleasantly surprised that Olivia was able to take so much time off of her previous 1500. I think that Molly and Olivia push each other to be better! Plus, Emily really did well in pulling off four events on the same day. She and I are both most excited about her return to the high jump. Emily has the opportunity to score for us in the high jump at the championships.”
The Blackburn women’s team will return to Greenville at the end of the month to conclude their season by competing in the SLIAC Outdoor Championships that are scheduled on Saturday, April 29.
