Beavers Exceed Expectations at SLIAC Conference Championships, Finish Seventh Overall

EUREKA, IL — The Blackburn College wrestling team delivered its strongest collective performance of the season this past weekend at the SLIAC Conference Championships, surpassing preseason projections to finish seventh overall — just a half point shy of sixth place.

The Beavers competed in an electric atmosphere and turned in their most confident performance of the year. As a team, they exceeded preseason expectations and showed steady improvement across the lineup.

Remington led the way as Blackburn's top individual performer, placing fifth with three wins, including two by pin. The Beavers had a standout round in which every wrestler secured a victory to advance, earning the opportunity to wrestle for third- or fifth-place finishes. While the team hit a tough stretch in the following round, each wrestler battled back to earn a placing match. Remington capped the day with a win to secure his fifth-place finish.

At the conclusion of the tournament, conference honors were announced, and Blackburn's LaQuaris Moore was named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Head Coach Tim McGuire praised the team's effort:

"I am proud of how our guys competed today. This was the most confidently they performed all year. We know we can wrestle better, but we competed hard and stepped up to the moment. We are young and missing guys in our lineup, but we will come back strong next season."
