ELMHURST, IL — The Blackburn College wrestling team competed this past Saturday at the Al Hanke Invitational hosted by Elmhurst University, taking on some of the top programs from Illinois and Wisconsin. The Beavers showed strong progress across the lineup while gaining valuable experience against elite regional competition.
Both Blackburn heavyweights, Remington Hiser and Jaidyn Lee, delivered standout performances throughout the day, each earning significant victories by pin. The two teammates eventually faced one another in the blood round, guaranteeing a Beaver presence in the placement matches. Hiser went on to finish seventh overall, earning Blackburn's first tournament placement of the season.
Across all weight classes, the Beavers demonstrated noticeable improvement, competing with confidence and intensity in every match.
Head Coach Tim McGuire praised the team's effort and the competitive atmosphere of the event.
"This tournament at Elmhurst University is my favorite regular season tournament of the year. We get to see the best teams in Illinois and Wisconsin, and it is a great environment with strong rivalry matches," McGuire said. "Our guys competed very well, and our heavyweights stood out with their performance. Both of our heavyweights had strong performances and ended up seeing each other in the blood round. We are proud to have our first tournament placer with Remington Hiser."
