Gibson, Frey, Koenig, Hiser Earn SLIAC Honors
BELLEVILLE, IL — Senior Caroline Gibson was named to the All-SLIAC First Team, while junior Kenadee Frey and senior Shelby Koenig were named to the All-SLIAC Second Team, and senior Sierra Hiser was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
BELLEVILLE, IL — Senior Caroline Gibson was named to the All-SLIAC First Team, while junior Kenadee Frey and senior Shelby Koenig were named to the All-SLIAC Second Team, and senior Sierra Hiser was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Gibson was named to the First Team as a catcher. The senior has posted a .363 batting average while appearing in 35 games with 33 starts. She totaled 37 hits, including eight doubles and a home run, while driving in 23 RBIs and scoring 20 runs. Gibson also showed patience at the plate with 10 walks and added speed on the bases, going 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts.
Junior Kenadee Frey ranks third in the league with seven home runs, is in the top 10 with a .628 slugging percentage, and is second in the conference with 41 RBIs. Frey is hitting .382 while starting 40 of 41 games. She has recorded 52 hits, including 11 doubles and one triple, while driving in 41 RBIs and scoring 31 runs. Frey also showed consistency and discipline, adding nine walks and going a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts. She was named to the All-SLIAC Second Team.
Joining her with second-team distinction was senior Shelby Koenig, who has had a strong season in the circle, posting an 8–6 record with a 2.40 ERA over 25 appearances (11 starts). She threw 96.1 innings, allowing just 80 hits while striking out 98 batters. With three complete games, including one shutout, Koenig has been a consistent and reliable presence all season.
Senior Sierra Hiser was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. She is hitting .282 across 27 games with 24 starts. Hiser recorded 20 hits, including seven doubles and two triples, while driving in 12 RBIs and scoring 17 runs. She also showed discipline at the plate with 14 walks and added a perfect 1-for-1 mark on stolen base attempts. In a conference matchup with MUW, Hiser delivered the upset win by driving in Giles in extra innings.
The team will continue its season Thursday when it travels to Spalding University to take on the Panthers of Greenville in the SLIAC Semifinals. The Beavers will then play again Friday, with game time determined by Thursday's result.
