Bio
David Daugherty Jr. begins his first season as an assistant coach with the Blackburn College track and field program, working with the pole vault group.
Daugherty brings over 20 years of coaching experience, primarily in wrestling, along with nearly a decade of involvement in the pole vault at the middle school and high school levels. He began coaching the event in 2013 when his son took up pole vault. What started as a personal investment quickly grew into a long-term commitment to the event and to developing athletes in the Carlinville community.
Over the next eight years, Daugherty coached both middle school and high school vaulters, helping guide numerous athletes to IHSA state meet qualifications and podium finishes. His hands-on approach and willingness to learn the technical aspects of the event have made him a valuable mentor to developing vaulters.
A 1998 graduate of Blackburn College, Daugherty earned degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science. He currently works as a Senior Software Engineer while remaining actively involved in coaching and athlete development.
Daugherty brings a passion for teaching, problem-solving, and technical skill development as he joins the Blackburn coaching staff.
