Beavers Battle Back but Webster Pulls Away Late
CARLINVILLE, IL — The Blackburn College men’s basketball team took on Webster University Wednesday night in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Beavers battled throughout the contest, trading leads and fighting to regain control, but ultimately fell short, 77–69.
CARLINVILLE, IL — The Blackburn College men's basketball team took on Webster University Wednesday night in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Beavers battled throughout the contest, trading leads and fighting to regain control, but ultimately fell short, 77–69.
Freshman Evan Jordan led the Beavers in scoring with 23 points and added three rebounds. Junior Kcion Welch led the team in rebounds with seven and recorded the second-most points with 11. Junior Payton Cook led the Beavers in assists with five while contributing four rebounds and eight points.
In the first half, Webster opened the scoring to set the tone, and the Beavers found themselves trailing by as many as eight points. With 11 minutes remaining in the half, Blackburn began to rally, building momentum and doing what it took to fight back and take a 33–30 lead.
After halftime, the Beavers struck first, looking to apply early pressure and set the tone against Webster. Both teams went on runs, with Blackburn holding the lead until the eight-minute mark. At that point, the Gorlocks regained control, pushing the lead back and forth. Webster eventually pulled ahead, and the Beavers were unable to respond, falling 77–69.
The Blackburn College men's basketball team will return to action Saturday when they take on Principia College in another SLIAC matchup.
