GREENVILLE, IL — The Blackburn men's basketball team traveled to Greenville University to take on the Panthers in a conference matchup. The Beavers fought until the final buzzer but came up short, falling 124–110.
Blackburn had five players score in double figures to lead the way. Freshman Evan Jordan turned in an impressive performance with 30 points, six assists, and three steals. Freshman Jaylen Jeter followed with 23 points and five rebounds. Juniors Payton Cook and Kamerin Carter also contributed, with Cook finishing with 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Carter added 11 points. Senior Darius Duff chipped in 11 points as well.
Blackburn opened the game with strong energy, striking first on a layup by junior Owen Walter and building early momentum behind solid ball movement and rebounding. Walter, junior Kcion Welch, and Jordan helped Blackburn establish an early presence inside, while Carter and Jeter were active defensively, creating extra possessions.
Jeter quickly became a spark for Blackburn, scoring efficiently around the rim and attacking passing lanes for steals. Jordan followed with multiple finishes in transition and at the basket, helping Blackburn maintain a narrow lead through the early portion of the first half. Despite Greenville's outside shooting, Blackburn stayed competitive with second-chance opportunities and strong interior play.
Midway through the first half, Blackburn leaned heavily on Jeter and Jordan. Jeter knocked down jumpers, finished through contact, and added points at the free-throw line, while Jordan continued to slash effectively and convert from the stripe. Carter also contributed by pushing the pace, rebounding, and setting up teammates. Blackburn reached the 50-point mark before halftime, showing offensive balance and toughness, but Greenville surged late to take a 62–51 lead at the break.
In the second half, Blackburn continued to battle behind consistent scoring from Jordan, Cook, Jeter, and Carter. Jordan was particularly aggressive, scoring in bunches with layups, free throws, and transition finishes while also creating turnovers on defense. Cook provided steady interior scoring and rebounding, and Duff added hustle points off offensive boards.
Despite Blackburn's effort, Greenville's scoring runs made it difficult to close the gap. Blackburn showed resilience late, with Jeter, freshman Bradyn Pieper, Walter, and Carter all converting baskets in the final stretch. The Beavers continued to attack the rim, generate steals, and fight on the glass until the final buzzer, ultimately falling 124–110.
The Beavers return home next Wednesday to take on the Gorloks of Webster, with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
