The opening half featured energetic defense and timely shot-making from Blackburn. Cook set the early tone, scoring Blackburn's first five points with a pull-up jumper and a three-pointer. Jeter provided an immediate spark off the bench, attacking the paint for multiple layups and converting in transition to help Blackburn build an early lead. Blackburn's ball pressure also created opportunities, with steals from Carter, senior Darius Duff, and freshman Evan Jordan fueling fast-break chances.
Despite Blackburn's energy, Spalding answered with physical interior play and timely perimeter shooting, closing the half on a run to take a slim 24–23 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Blackburn continued to compete, but Spalding briefly seized momentum behind a series of three-pointers that pushed the lead into double digits. Still, Blackburn never folded. Welch was aggressive around the rim, finishing through contact and getting to the free-throw line, while Carter consistently created offense in the paint. Jordan and Jeter helped ignite a defensive surge, combining steals with transition buckets that sparked a late comeback.
With under two minutes remaining, Blackburn clawed within three points after baskets from Carter and Jeter, and the pressure mounted. However, Spalding capitalized at the free-throw line in the closing seconds and sealed the game with a fast-break finish.
