Blackburn Hosts Loras In Close Matchup
CARLINVILLE, IL— The Blackburn College Men's Basketball team took on Loras College in a non-conference matchup Friday Night. The Beavers had a tough battle trying to secure a victory but fell short to Loras 71-66.
Freshman Evan Jordan led the Beavers with 17 points. Freshman Jaylen Jeter led the team with three assists and also scored 16 points. Junior Kcion Welch chipped in with 12 points. Jordan and Welch both led the team in rebounds, having six each.
In the first half, the Beavers started off scoring with a two pointer, taking the lead early. The lead went back and forth trading as the teams traded basket for basket throughout the first half. The Beavers ended up being down by one, 32-31, exiting the first half.
The Beavers came out of the break strong as they pushed out to a 42-36 lead less than three minutes into the second half. Loras responded to make it 42-41 but a Jordan layup stopped the Loras rally and began a BC rally to get out to a 48-41 lead. The guests again bounced back and saw the game tied at 55-55 with 6:25 left to play.
Jordan answered with a layup and Payton Cook added another layup after a Loras free throw to make it 59-56. However, Loras responded and took an eventual 60-59 lead with four minutes to go and never looked back as the captured the 71-66 lead.
Blackburn will return to action Sunday afternoon with their first road contest of the season when they head to Rhodes College.
