Blackburn Men's Basketball Opens Season with IC
CARLINVILLE, IL– The Blackburn College Men’s Basketball season got underway Monday night as the Beaver played Illinois College at home in non-conference action.
CARLINVILLE, IL– The Blackburn College Men's Basketball season got underway Monday night as the Beaver played Illinois College at home in non-conference action.
Unfortunately, the Beavers fell short and were defeated 76-58.
The Beavers were led by sophomore Odis Grissom with 16 points on 6-11 from the field. Sophomore Ayden Kanallakan added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Junior Darius Duff finished with 9 points for the Beavers.
The Beavers would jump out to an early 3-0 lead with a layup from junior Nick Cooke and a made free throw from junior Cameron Johnson. Illinois College would rally back and take a 10-6 lead but the Beavers would cut the deficit and tie the game nearly halfway through the first half 13-13. IC answered with a rally to pull ahead and take an 11-point lead, 40-29.
Senior Brody Barr got a quick steal early in the second half and kicked it ahead to Duff for the layup to cut the lead down to single digits. The Blueboys answered with a basket of their own. Blackburn would continue to fight back cutting the deficit down to just five points with 14 minutes left to play. However, Illinois College would go on an 18-0 run that would ultimately decide the game, as IC won 76-58.
Blackburn Falls to 0-1 while Illinois College moves to 2-0. The Beavers return to action Wednesday with a road trip to take on NCAA Division II foe Mckendree University.
