Mitchell, Mercado earn Blackburn Athlete of the Week

CARLINVILLE, IL — Senior Zoe Mitchell and freshman Santos Mercado earned Blackburn Athlete of the Week honors.
Senior Zoe Mitchell earned Player of the Week honors by batting .429 with six hits in 14 at-bats. She recorded a triple and drove in five RBIs while scoring three runs to help lead the offense. She also showed discipline at the plate with a walk and was perfect defensively, committing no errors in four chances.
Freshman Santos Mercado had an impressive week at the plate in their win over Maranatha Baptist. Mercado batted .500, going 2-for-4 in limited appearances. He made his hits count, recording both a double and a home run while driving in a run and scoring twice. He also showed discipline at the plate with a walk and was a perfect 1-for-1 on stolen base attempts, making a strong all-around offensive impact.
Softball is back at home Friday for an SLIAC matchup against Webster and will travel to Spalding University on Sunday. Baseball is at home against Greenville on Friday and Saturday. Men's and women's track and field will compete at the WashU Distance Classic on Thursday and Friday.
