Burrows, Jent Earn Athlete of the Week Honors

CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College has named Sam Burrows and Gracie Jent as this week's Athletes of the Week. 

The pair led the men's and women's cross country teams at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday. Jent led the women's team and placed 21st overall, running the 6k course in 29:31.48. Burrows led the men's team with a time of 30:10.79 to take 20th in the 8k race. 

This week sees the winter sports begin their season. On thursday, Blackburn will host Eureka College in the first ever men's wrestling match at Blackburn College. Women's basketball tips off Friday evening at Webster University for the Webster Tip-Off Classic where they take on Aurora University. 

Saturday features the men's wrestling team taking part at the Millikin Open with women's basketball facing Lake Forest College in their second game at Webster. Men's basketball hosts William Baptist University for their first game of the season. 

Volleyball heads to Lyon College to take on the Scots and Eureka College in the final two matches of their regular season. Two wins will give the Beavers the third seed for the SLIAC Tournament and their first home postseason match since the SLIAC resumed postseason play in 2004. A split or two losses will result in various tie-breaker scenarios.
