CARLINVILLE, IL – Blackburn College and the Blackburn College Athletics Department celebrated National Girls & Women in Sports Day as part of the women's basketball team's game on February 3.
Powered by the Women's Sports Foundation, National Girls & Women in Sports Day serves to raise awareness and act as a reminder of the positive impact of sports and the continued need to promote gender equality in athletics. The day also is a celebration of the progress that has been made since Title IX was passed in 1972 while acknowledging the work still to be done to attain true equality in sport.
"I'm so excited to celebrate this day with so many alumni, coaches and student-athletes, said Blackburn Athletic Director," Kim Camera-Harvey. "It's an opportunity for us to support our female athletes as they strive to achieve excellence and realize their boundless potential."
The day started with a reception in Edwin & Claire Jaenke Alumni Center where the group heard from some alumni and current student-athletes. All alumni in attendance where also recognized at half-time of the Women's Basketball Game.
